S Hwy 9. 5A, Fernley, NVIf you never been to a lantern festive before, you MUST go!! It was a beautiful experience. Words and pictures can't describe how beautiful it was.. Bring ur own food/snacks, drinks and chair! They had food trucks, but it was expensive : \ Bring a sweater because it gets really cold when the sun goes down. The only negative thing was the traffic! Traffic was a pain in the butt! One way in & one way out! Imagine that with 1. It took us 2 hours to get out. They really need someone to direct traffic or have more exit route. Bucketlist - -- check! They give adults a wrist band to wear. At check in you have the option to buy more lanterns. I can't speak for all the other stuff they say on the website (Face painting, food trucks, etc) because by the time we got there, it was al about finding a spot. We got there later than most so all firepits were taken. Bring your ticket from parking- bring it to the stage to get firewood.. As the sun sets and it gets dark, you get anxious and want to set off your lantern. Many people set off their lanterns early- which the host kept saying not to due to firecode. I think we actually launched around the 8- 9 pm hour. The event started at 4. PM. When we got to the raceway, we noticed there was only one entrance/exit. We already knew it was going to be a pain to leave the event. We got there a little after 4: 3. PM and there were several rows of cars before us. As we walked towards the event area, we scanned our tickets and picked up our lantern kit which consisted of our lantern, 2 wooden skewers, a marker, a lighter, and a s'more kit minus the chocolate. We walked further towards the racetracks to look for an empty camp area but all the camp areas were taken! Luckily, we found a couple who were willing to share their camp area with us. There was face painting, a bouncy house, and free candy for kids. There were competitions for kids and adults (hula hoop competitions, juice- chugging competitions for kids, and root beer- chugging competitions for adults). There was a juggling act and live music for everyone. There were also food trucks and vendors selling alcohol. We didn't actually light the lanterns until a little after 9pm when it got dark enough. This was literally an all day event. We were all anxious to light our lanterns but the long wait and the anticipation was worth it. The release of the lanterns into the sky was absolutely beautiful. Something about 6,0. I felt like I was the movie Rapunzel. To top it all off, my friend got proposed to. It made this event even more memorable. It took us almost 2 hours to leave the raceway due to traffic leaving the event. And there were many cars behind us. That was the only sucky part. I recommend bringing lawn/beach chairs, food/snacks, a sweater or a light jacket, a light blanket, and a cooler for drinks. Definitely take a soft- top cooler with wheels or a wagon. The parking lot to the racetracks is not a short walk. Have been wanting to attend one of these for a while. Was told by the GF that it was a tangled movie reference but never really got the chance to watch the whole movie before attending the event. Made it even more tiring. The driving took 4 hours and a bit to get there through all the windy roads among the mountains. Tickets were cheap, only $3. Las Vegas. Arriving at the venue which was a motor speedway in the middle of no way, there was decent amount of cars even though almost a hour prior of gate opening. The speedway was filled with torches and fire pits for everyone to claim. We had decent sized group of around 1. The entrance had two inflated owls which looked like the electric daisy carnival mascot. In the venue there were a few food trucks and Stage set in the middle of the speedway for announcements and performances. Since there were only like 4 food trucks.. There were really long lines .. More food truck options would have created a Better food experience for this event. I bought garlic fries for 3. Thai wrap for $9. There were also face painting, bull riding ride and bounce house for the kids. Portable pottys were located on two sides of the speedway and seemed sufficient. Didn't really pay attention to the performances and contests they had in the middle stage but it seemed mehhhh. Waited from 4pm- 9pm for the launching of the lanterns. AS bad as it seemed. We all decorated the lantern with meaningful pictures and quotes as supplies were provided while roasting our smore's. The launch was magical. There was a count down for everyone to light up their lanterns and let go of them. However there wasn't enough torches for everyone to light up at once so people gradually let theirs go. It was an amazing few minutes and definitely worth an experience at least once. It was an experience that one must try themselves to grasp the stunning Kodak moment. Leaving the parking lot was a disaster and traffic was so backed up. However, I found a back route of the speedway where everyone eventually followed through and I was out earlier than expected. Although it was a long journey to get there and back, I still had a magical experience with my gf and friends! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience something out of the ordinary. Perhaps I will be back for another magical moment. This is definitely something you must experience at least once in your life. I have been wanting to go to this event for about two years and I finally made it! If you've watched Tangled, you'll love it - it's just like the lantern scene! We ordered our tickets a couple months before the actual event so we paid around $3. Prices increase as it gets closer to the event and let me warn you, it does get sold out! Doors opened at 4: 3. Parking was $5 (bring cash!) Parking was very easy. Staff was very organized - they directed each car to specific parking spots so nobody really had trouble finding a spot. Tickets are then scanned at the entrance and you receive wristbands. You pick up your paper lanterns, sticks (for s'mores), and box of goodies afterwards. Each box contained a lighter, graham crackers, and marshmallows. I thought it was weird that they gave us all these materials for s'mores, but they forgot to give us chocolate. They eventually gave it to everyone later in the evening, maybe to avoid melting in the sun? I suggest following the list of things they ask you to bring. Chairs and mats are necessary. You don't want to be sitting on the dusty floor where there might be fire ants crawling around (there were huge ones around the parking lot, yikes). I recommend bringing board games or anything to keep you occupied until the sun sets. It took about five hours for the official lantern launch. While you wait, you can enjoy a couple of the activities they provide (most are for kids though) like bull riding, face painting, and balloon animals. There was also an MC who tried to hype up the crowd, but I'm not so sure if anyone really paid attention to him. There were about 4- 6 food trucks, 3 of them serving actual food while the others served alcohol and ice cream. Because there were 6,0. A refill on my watermelon lemonade took about 3. Perhaps next year, have more food trucks to accommodate the number of people at the event to reduce ridiculously long wait times. Once it got closer to the launch time, they served us firewood where we could make s'mores with. Oh.. before it gets dark, be sure to decorate your lantern! It was around 9: 1. The MC gave the crowd directions: 1) Open up your lantern and fill it up with air so it forms its shape. Have a partner hold the top/sides of your lantern while you hold the bottom over the torch. Fill your lantern with hot air until it looks presentable! Release your lantern (well.. It was pretty rushed though. We were supposed to let our lanterns go in unison, but it was impossible to do so since everyone takes turns lighting up our lanterns. So everyone just let them go when they were ready. The sky still looked beautiful/pretty regardless. It was just as I had imagined it (just like the scene in Tangled!!!!!!) I would love to do this every year. It really was so amazing. The only reason I am giving this a four stars, however, is the lack of food trucks/things to do, and how difficult and chaotic exiting the parking lot was. You gotta be kidding me. We were lucky to find a back route up some hill and were able to get out pretty quickly. Tips: You should come early to claim your own fire pit, but don't be afraid to share with others! Highly recommend this festival!!! I think they do it both in the spring and also the fall! I have always wanted to go to a lantern festival and I finally got to experience this great event!! I wish there were clearer instructions honestly and that's why it's only a 4 star. Things to know - 1) Chocolate isn't included in the boxes for the smores, for reasons unknown, so hold onto the box until they tell you to bring up the lighter inside to show for a chocolate bar. You can delegate one person in your group to show all the lighters and bring back the chocolate. Make friends with the people at the pits if you can't get one to yourself. There are only so many tiki torches and fire pits due to fire hazards. Parking is a beezy afterwards and is hard to find our car in the dark. There are perks to being late as you're closer to the exit but you won't get your own fire pit : (4) Checking in is through the people standing with i. Phones/phones. Once you scan you rockets, pick up 1 lantern (be careful not to rip it!), 1 stick per person for smores and the box which includes a lighter (needed for chocolate bar pickup), 1 sharpie of various color, graham crackers and 4 marshmallows. This is a dusty racetrack so wear shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Please clean up after yourselves because this isn't meant to be an event just for partying and drinking. This is a family event so please keep your explicit rap music down.
